課程簡介
本課程將以Francis D.K Ching之著作：建築：造型，空間與秩序一書為主幹，依照其章節去講述空間的基本元素，並循序漸進的帶到造型，空間以至於組織構成，比例和尺度。
除了書中的建築設計案例，也會搭配如平面設計，工業設計與室內設計之作品，分析其異同，並作出平行的比較，以期許對不同設計專業的同學有拋磚引玉之啟發。
針對各章結的案例，將帶入不同的設計思維與方法 - 比如在空間組織的部分，會講解Jean-Nicolas-Louis Durand的格狀系統思考，並推演到其對科比意的多米諾系統之影響。
課程於期中，期末將以報告，實作的方式，去評定學生對課程的學習成效，也希望能將本課程的知識內容，應用於他們的設計專案中，達到“學以致用”的目標。
The Composition of Space
The major goal of this class aims to give students general ideas
about how the architectural and interior space is formed and organized. Based
on the textbooks : Architecture: Form, Space, & Order (written by Francis
D.K Ching), students will learn what the basic geometries are for the space,
and how these fundamental elements be used in architecture design and different
fields including interior design, product design and media design.
Through cases studies in different fields and extensive reading such
as modern architecture essay Parametrictism(by Patrik Schumacher) or The Atlas of
new tectonic(by Jesse Reiser), students will learn the most avant-garde theories,
and have an over-all aspects about what the main stream is of the world
architecture today.
During the class student will be asked to participant discussions
and give cross comparison in order to understand the similarities and differentiation
of design orders between different industries and disciplines. In the end of
the semester, students will be asked to design one real scale model as their
studio project. The project must show very specific and clear concept and
description, reference of real material and texture and expected function. The
qualities of projects must show students’ learning outcome and will be the
criteria of semester grading.
