Taiwan Landscape Project

我們不斷討論臺灣主權問題—從歷史、文化、種族上…於是有了中國的、原住民的、中華民國的臺灣等各家說法。但誰真有正當理由擁有這塊土地? 又有誰真正了解這塊土地—包括動植物、微生物以至於文化、生態地景?

於是我有了創作臺灣地景計畫的想法: 製作一系列關於臺灣各種群落分布，包含了植物、菌類、便利商店等等的Collages。這不是精確的科學資料；有的作品只是將最直觀的”臺灣地景”以合成影像呈現。然而當我將這些影像全部疊合後所呈現的結果，或許就是真正的臺灣、真正的主權。

在這一系列作品的最後，我將所有圖像疊加，合成了一張臺灣的抽象畫。就如同這個動作代表的意義與結果—曖昧不明，真實世界中也是如此:人們總試圖以制式標語為這塊土地下定義-最棒的小吃、最有人情味的小鎮—但這都不是這個島真正的樣貌，沒有人能真正描述，界定這塊土地，因為”抽象”才是土地的本質。至此，我以這個動作作為這系列的結尾。

There are five subjects and twenty works in the “Taiwan Landscape Project”, including nature, culture, sociality, climate and political issues. Through these series of mapping and collage, I try to explore the true face of this tiny island.

There are four works in the Nature Series:

01“Lichen of Taiwan, Beautiful Taiwan”, 02“Coral of Taiwan, Blue Taiwan”, 03“Moss of Taiwan, Green Taiwan”, 04 “Root of Taiwan, Homeland Taiwan” 

There are five works in the Culture Series:

05“Roads of Taiwan, Split Taiwan”, 06“Concrete of Taiwan, Gray Taiwan”, 07“Ditch Covers of Taiwan, Underground Taiwan”, 08“Buildings of Taiwan, Self-Organized Taiwan”, 09“Technology of Taiwan, Advanced Taiwan” 

There are four works in the Sociality Series:

10“Stores of Taiwan, Taiwan of Uni-President”, 11“Foods of Taiwan, Greasy Taiwan”, 12“Food-waste of Taiwan, Wasted Taiwan”, 13“Plastic Taiwan, Stifled Taiwan”,  

There are two works in the Climate Series:

14“Water of Taiwan, Taiwan of Poseidn”, 15“Cold winter of Taiwan, Frozen Taiwan”,  

There are five works in the Politic Series:

16“Organs of Taiwan, Decentralization Taiwan”, 17“Split of Taiwan, Blue party and Green party”, 18 “Ink Taiwan, Vague Taiwan”, 19“Combination of Taiwan, Abstract Taiwan”, 20 “Original Taiwan, Our Taiwan”. 

In the last work” Combination of Taiwan, Abstract Taiwan” I combined all the previous works and created an abstract image of Taiwan. Through this action we can see that even though I have done so many studies, it is still hard to describe this island. Although the government and those advertisements always want to give this island a clear definition, but all these slogans and definitions could not show the true face of this island.
